Kumharas.
Sunsets, Ibiza and a crowd that listens.
Kumharas is one of the most beautiful places I have ever played. It sits on the island of Ibiza, facing the sunset, and for a good number of years it was my weekly home. Once a week, every week of the season, I climbed into that booth with the sea in front of me and the sky changing color while the music played.
People who have never been to Ibiza often imagine only the big clubs. Kumharas is something else. It is a place where the sunset is part of the program, where the crowd arrives early to find the best spot and where, when the sun finally touches the horizon, the whole place goes quiet for a moment before it applauds. I have seen that scene many times, and it never gets old.
Playing once a week for so many years taught me a lot. You learn the rhythm of the island. You learn that the first hour belongs to the light, and that the music has to follow it. I always started soft and warm, with deep and organic sounds, and let the energy rise as the day turned into evening. By the time it was dark, the dance floor was full, and the crowd was ready for more.
The audience at Kumharas is one of a kind. It is international and curious, and it listens. You get regulars who live on the island, travelers who found the place by chance and people who come back year after year because they remember how it felt. It is a crowd that is there for the music and for the moment, and as a DJ you can feel that respect from the first track.
Being a resident means more than playing. It means being part of the place. I got to know the team, the rhythm of the season and the faces that came back every summer. In a world where DJs often fly in, play and leave, being there week after week gave me something I value deeply: roots. Kumharas gave me a home on the island, and I will always be grateful for it.
Some of my favorite memories are on camera. In the videos below you can hear the sets and feel the atmosphere of the sessions in 2021 and 2023 and the live recordings of my first Kumharas sessions. They are the best way to understand what those evenings were like.
I still return to Kumharas, and each time it feels like coming back to a place where I belong. The sunset is the same, the sea is the same, and the feeling in the air is the same. Only I have changed, and the music with me, but the connection is intact.
If you are on Ibiza, go to Kumharas for the sunset and stay for the music. And if you run a venue that wants a resident who builds the evening from the first light to the last dance, let's talk.
